Maz's Making Blog is born!
Hiya lovely human,
It’s Maz here, your queer neurodivergent artist and pottery enthusiast. I'm super excited to introduce you to my brand new corner of the internet: Maz’s Making Blog!
Let me just start by saying how absolutely thrilled I am to have you join me on this journey. Whether you stumbled upon this blog by chance, or you've been eagerly awaiting its arrival (hey, I see you, fellow pottery pals!), I'm so excited to have you here.
So, what's the plan with Maz’s Making Blog? Well, I want to bring you along on my little journey of creating my art, building my business and a life that will allow me to be me - Autism and ADHD included! I’ll be sharing with you my world of handmade illustrated ceramics, digital illustration, and everything in between.
Being the pottery addict I am, I’m never happier than when I’m getting muddy on my pottery wheel. There’s something utterly magical about being able to shape a lump of clay into a functional work of art. From mugs to bowls to vases, I'm constantly pushing and challenging myself to develop and grow my craft.
I mainly create my pieces using the pottery wheel, but I also do some hand building too, creating all my pieces from stoneware clay which is fired a higher temperature creating long-lasting durable ceramics – perfect for functional pieces! I decorate each one by hand, carefully painting them with intricate designs using my underglazes and then finish them with a transparent glaze.
Although ceramic art is my great love, lately I've been experimenting with the world of digital illustration. From personalised portraits to whimsical doodles, I've been having an amazing time exploring this new medium. My favourite bit of drawing digitally so far, is the undo button! I rarely sketch out designs before getting stuck in with the paint or ink, my pottery included, so that doesn’t leave much room for error. Having the ability to just hit undo has been a life saver at times, as I practise and develop this new skill.
The most exciting part of my new digital illustration journey is that I’ve had a truly amazing opportunity come my way, an opportunity to create the BIGGEST artwork I’ve ever made! This piece is over 400 cm in length (yep, pretty big). Although, I can’t currently share who the piece is for, I can share the behind the scenes making process and I cannot wait to share every step of the journey with you.
I have decided to document this project on my YouTube channel as a little series, if you’re interested in watching please head over to my channel: @maz_nash_ to watch Part 1! Don’t forget to subscribe and turn notifications on so you don’t miss out on future episodes!
